How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Works

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant programme providing one-off payments to homeowners replacing fossil fuel heating with heat pumps.

Current grant amounts

  • Air source heat pump: £7,500
  • Ground source heat pump: £7,500
  • Biomass boiler (limited areas): £5,000

These amounts were increased in October 2023. The grant is applied directly by the installer — you simply pay the reduced amount.

Who is eligible?

  • Owner-occupiers in England and Wales
  • Property must have a valid EPC within the last 10 years with no outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations
  • The boiler or heat source being replaced must have been the primary heating for the property

The EPC requirement explained

An EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is required to confirm the property doesn't have outstanding low-cost insulation recommendations. If your EPC flags missing loft insulation, you must install it before applying for the grant — though this is often straightforward and cheap.

How to apply

The installer applies on your behalf. We are registered BUS installers and handle the full application process. Contact us to discuss whether your property is suitable.
