A 10-year manufacturer warranty is one of the most compelling selling points for premium boiler brands. But what does it actually cover? And what conditions do you need to meet to keep it valid?
What's typically covered
Manufacturer warranties cover failures of parts and components caused by manufacturing defects. This includes the heat exchanger, main circuit board (PCB), gas valve, pump, fan, and most other internal components.
What's typically NOT covered
- Labour costs — many warranties cover parts only, not the engineer's time to fit them
- Damage caused by sludge or limescale — this is why magnetic filters and inhibitor are essential
- Incorrect installation — work not carried out by a Gas Safe engineer voids the warranty
- Accidental damage
- Skipped annual services — most warranties require documented annual servicing
How to keep your warranty valid
- Ensure installation by a Gas Safe registered, brand-accredited engineer
- Register the warranty with the manufacturer within 30 days of installation (we do this for you)
- Get your boiler serviced every 12 months by a Gas Safe engineer — keep the service records
- Fit a magnetic filter (often a warranty requirement for newer models)
Parts-only vs parts-and-labour warranties
Always check whether your warranty covers labour as well as parts. Worcester Bosch and Vaillant's extended warranties include parts and labour — which is far more valuable than a parts-only warranty, where you'd still pay the engineer's call-out fee.
