The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI in 2009 as the official legal register for gas engineers in the UK. If someone works on your gas appliances without being Gas Safe registered, they are breaking the law.
What Gas Safe registration means
Gas Safe registered engineers have been assessed and qualified to work on specific types of gas appliances. Each engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card showing their registration number and which types of work they are qualified to carry out.
Why it matters
Poorly-fitted gas appliances can leak carbon monoxide — a colourless, odourless, potentially lethal gas. Carbon monoxide poisoning kills around 40 people in the UK each year and hospitalises hundreds more. Using an unregistered gas engineer is a false economy that can have fatal consequences.
How to check your engineer
Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card before any work begins. You can also check an engineer's registration at GasSafeRegister.co.uk by entering their registration number.
Our registration
