January and February are our busiest months — and the months when being without heating is most miserable. Here's advice for both emergencies and prevention.
If your boiler breaks down now
Same-day emergency: Call us directly — we carry most common parts for all major brands and can often fix same-day in the Corby area.
While you wait: Electric fan heaters for critical rooms (bathroom, bedroom). Hot water bottles, extra bedding. If you have a combi boiler and it's just the heating (not hot water) that's failed, use the kitchen hots water tap — combi hot water often works even when the heating doesn't.
If you're completely off: Electric shower (if you have one) still works. Neighbour, family, or local council facilities for washing if needed.
Protecting your pipes
If your home will be very cold for an extended period, let cold water taps drip slightly to keep water moving. This prevents frozen pipes from bursting.
What to do after winter
Book your annual service for March–June when our diary is less full and you can plan ahead. Get a magnetic filter fitted if you don't have one. Consider a smart thermostat with boiler diagnostics — some alert you to pressure drops before the boiler actually fails.
