Overview
Nest and Tado are both premium smart thermostats with strong apps and good energy savings. Tado is particularly known for its geofencing precision; Nest for its auto-learning.
Geofencing
Tado tracks every household member's phone individually — heating only activates when the last person leaves, and turns on when the first person returns. Nest uses one phone (the owner's) for geofencing. Tado wins for multi-person households.
Learning
Nest auto-learns your schedule without programming. Tado requires manual setup but gives you more control. Tado has more configuration depth; Nest is simpler out of the box.
Multi-zone/smart TRV integration
Tado offers a complete smart TRV system with per-room control. Nest's smart TRVs are separate products with less native integration. Tado wins for complex zoned setups.
Price
Similar pricing at entry level. Tado can become more expensive if adding smart TRVs to multiple rooms.
Energy reports
Both provide detailed energy usage reports. Tado's reports are generally considered more actionable.
Verdict
Single-person household or want minimum fuss: Nest. Multi-person household or want per-room smart TRVs: Tado.
