Yes — if you're on certain means-tested benefits and have an inefficient boiler, you may qualify for a fully funded replacement under the government's ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation) scheme.
Who qualifies for ECO4?
You may be eligible if you receive one or more of: Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-Based Jobseeker's Allowance, or Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance. The property must also have an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G.
What ECO4 covers
ECO4 can fund a complete boiler replacement, including installation. It may also cover insulation improvements required to qualify for the boiler (e.g., cavity wall or loft insulation). In some cases, the entire cost is covered by the energy company obligation.
How to apply
Contact your energy supplier directly — they are obligated to offer ECO4 funding. Alternatively, use the government's Great British Insulation Scheme eligibility checker online. Some energy companies also operate referral schemes through installers.
