Glow-worm and Vaillant are both owned by the same parent company (Vaillant Group) and share some engineering heritage. But they're aimed at different market segments.
What they share
Glow-worm boilers use several Vaillant Group components — particularly in the electronics and control boards. This means Glow-worm benefits from the group's engineering quality at a more accessible price point.
Where they differ
Heat exchanger: Vaillant uses a higher-specification stainless steel heat exchanger in the ecoTEC Plus and Exclusive range. Glow-worm's Energy range uses a good but slightly less premium specification.
Warranty: Vaillant offers up to 10 years with an accredited installer. Glow-worm's standard warranty is 7 years — still strong, but shorter.
Price: A Glow-worm Energy combi is typically £150–£250 cheaper than an equivalent Vaillant ecoFIT Pure — the entry-level Vaillant.
Which should you choose?
If you want the Vaillant Group's engineering at a mid-market price, the Glow-worm Energy is a sound choice — good reliability, decent efficiency, and well-supported. If you want the full premium Vaillant experience, step up to the ecoTEC Pro or Plus for the better heat exchanger and longer warranty.
