How to Claim a Boiler Grant in 2025
Several government schemes can fund boiler or heat pump upgrades in 2025. Here's a step-by-step guide to claiming what you're entitled to.
Government boiler grants exist under two main schemes in 2025: ECO4 (for households on benefits) and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS, for heat pump installation). Here's how to claim each one.
ECO4: free boiler for benefits recipients
Step 1: Check your eligibility
You may qualify if you receive Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-Based JSA, or Income-Related ESA. Your property also needs an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G.
Step 2: Contact your energy supplier
Energy suppliers are obligated to offer ECO4 funding. Call your current supplier and ask about ECO4 eligibility — they'll often arrange everything. Alternatively, use the government's Simple Energy Advice website to check eligibility.
Step 3: Survey and installation
If approved, a registered installer assesses your property and installs the boiler. You pay nothing (or a reduced contribution in some cases).
Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS): £7,500 toward a heat pump
Step 1: Check eligibility
You must be an owner-occupier in England or Wales. The property must have a valid EPC with no outstanding low-cost insulation recommendations.
Step 2: Choose an MCS-certified installer
The grant can only be applied by an MCS-certified installer. We are MCS certified and handle all BUS applications on your behalf.
Step 3: Installer applies
We submit the BUS application before installation begins. The grant is approved and deducted directly from your invoice — you simply pay the reduced amount.
Step 4: Installation
Heat pump is installed and commissioned. Final paperwork submitted to Ofgem. Contact us to start the process.
