How to Prepare Your Home for a Power Flush
A power flush is a straightforward process, but a little preparation makes it faster and neater. Here's what to do before our engineers arrive.
A power flush connects a specialist machine to your central heating system and circulates chemical cleaner through every radiator and pipe. Here's how to prepare your home for the day.
Before the engineers arrive
Identify all radiators
Walk through the property and note the location of every radiator, including any in loft rooms, outbuildings, or utility areas connected to the heating system. Our engineer will need to access the valve connections on each one.
Clear access to radiators
Ensure there's reasonable access to at least one valve connection on every radiator. Move furniture if necessary to reach the radiator valves — particularly for large sofas or bookshelves pushed against radiator sections.
Protect flooring
The power flush process involves opening valve connections on radiators. A small amount of water can escape. Protect flooring under each radiator with old towels or dust sheets. We carry our own, but extras are appreciated.
Clear the boiler area
The machine typically connects near the boiler. Ensure there's clear floor space and access to the system connections.
On the day
Plan to be without heating and hot water for most of the day — a full power flush takes 4–8 hours depending on system size and contamination level. The process involves:
- Chemical dosing and circulation
- Individual radiator flushing
- System drain and refill
- Inhibitor dosing and final system test
After the power flush
Our engineer will confirm all radiators are heating correctly before leaving and will issue a record of treatment including the inhibitor used and its concentration. Get a power flush quote.
