Baxi Platinum vs Baxi 800: Which Is Better?

Baxi's Platinum range sits above the 800. Here's whether the premium is worth it.

28 January 2024·4 min read·By Corby Boiler Installations

Baxi's Platinum combi sits at the top of the Baxi residential range, sitting above the already-premium 800. Here's how they compare and whether the Platinum deserves its premium.

Efficiency

Baxi Platinum: up to 89.3% net efficiency (approximately 80% gross). Baxi 800: up to 94.9% ErP. Counter-intuitively, the 800 is actually more efficient by modern measurement standards — different efficiency measurement standards make comparison tricky. Both are A-rated.

Warranty

Platinum: 10 years with registration. 800: 10 years with registration. Equal.

Features

Platinum: quieter operation, premium fascia. 800: more recent design with better diagnostics.

Price

Platinum: typically £100–£150 more than the 800. This reflects the premium casing and older platform.

Our verdict

The Baxi 800 is actually the better choice for most homeowners. It has better ErP efficiency figures, comparable warranty, and more current technology. The Platinum's premium is primarily for the aesthetic design. Unless you specifically prefer the Platinum's appearance, save the money and choose the 800.
