The Ideal Logic Max uses alphanumeric fault codes displayed on its LED panel. Here's what the most common ones mean and how to reset.
How to reset an Ideal Logic Max
- Note the fault code
- Press and hold the reset button (marked "Reset" or with a flame symbol) for 3 seconds
- Release and allow the boiler to restart
- If the fault reappears, don't keep resetting — call an engineer
Common Ideal Logic fault codes
- F1: Low system pressure — re-pressurise to 1.5 bar, then reset. Very common after the boiler hasn't run all summer.
- F2: Flame failure — ignition issue. Reset once. If persistent, engineer required.
- F3: Fan fault — engineer required
- F4: Flow temperature sensor fault — engineer required
- F9: Return temperature sensor fault — engineer required
- L1: Overheat safety device operated — check pressure and system, reset. Engineer if persistent.
- L2: High limit thermostat — engineer required
Ideal's diagnostic display
The Logic Max has a useful feature where scrolling through the display shows live system data (flow temperature, pressure, etc.) — handy for diagnosing without specialist equipment. The manual explains how to access this mode.
