Fitting a Boiler in a Kitchen
Installing a boiler in a kitchen is very common — in fact, it's where most UK boilers are installed. Here's what you need to know.
In a Kitchen Cupboard
Boilers can be installed inside a kitchen cupboard, provided adequate ventilation is provided. Current regulations allow sealed condensing boilers (all modern combi boilers) to be installed in cupboards as long as clearances are met.
Clearance Requirements
- 500mm minimum in front of the boiler for servicing access
- 150mm either side (manufacturer-specific — check the manual)
- Top clearance varies by model
What About Gas Hobs?
A boiler can be in the same kitchen as a gas hob or cooker, but must maintain certain distances from cooking surfaces and appliances. Your engineer will ensure compliance.
Ventilation
Modern sealed condensing boilers don't require additional ventilation beyond the flue. Older open-flue boilers have stricter ventilation requirements.
