What Makes a Quality Boiler Installation?
1. Correct Sizing
The boiler must be correctly sized for the property. Undersizing leads to insufficient heat and hot water; oversizing causes short-cycling and wastes fuel. We use industry-standard heat loss calculations.
2. Proper System Flushing
Before installing a new boiler, the existing system should be flushed or have inhibitor added. Sludge from the old system will damage the new boiler's heat exchanger within months.
3. Magnetic Filtration
A magnetic filter must be fitted — it's a warranty requirement for most manufacturers. We fit a Magna Clean or Fernox TF1 on every installation.
4. Correct Gas Rate
The gas pressure and rate must be checked and set correctly. Under-gassing causes ignition problems; over-gassing can damage the heat exchanger.
5. Flue Compliance
Flue position must comply with regulations (minimum distances from windows, doors, and corners). A non-compliant flue position is both illegal and dangerous.
6. Full Commissioning
All boilers must be properly commissioned — gas rate checked, pressure set, all controls tested, and the boiler registered with the manufacturer for warranty purposes.
7. Gas Safe Certificate
A Gas Safe installation certificate must be issued. This is a legal requirement — if your installer doesn't provide one, the installation is illegal.
