Heating oil (kerosene, also known as 28-second oil) is stored in an external tank — typically 1,000 to 2,500 litres — and fed to the boiler via a supply line. The boiler burns the oil to heat water, which is then circulated through radiators and a hot water cylinder in the same way as a gas system.
