What does a boiler service involve? How often to service and why it matters.
5 questions answered by our Gas Safe engineers
How often should I service my boiler?
Your boiler should be serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Most manufacturers require annual servicing to maintain the warranty.
What does a boiler service include?
A service includes a visual inspection, checking the flue, testing the gas pressure, cleaning the burner and heat exchanger, checking safety devices, and issuing a service record.
Can I service my boiler myself?
No. By law, all gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Attempting to service a gas boiler yourself is dangerous and illegal.
How long does a boiler service take?
A standard boiler service takes 30–60 minutes. If any issues are found, the engineer will advise you and provide a quote for repairs.
Does my boiler need servicing if it's working fine?
Yes. Many boiler problems develop slowly and aren't obvious until they cause a breakdown. Annual servicing catches issues early, before they become costly.
