Gas Safe Register is the official UK register of qualified gas engineers. By law, all gas work must be done by a professionally qualified engineer. Always check an engineer's ID card before allowing them to work on your gas appliances.

Do I need a carbon monoxide alarm?
Yes — it's a legal requirement in rented properties for a carbon monoxide alarm to be in any room with a gas appliance. We strongly recommend CO alarms in all homes.
What are the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning?
Headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fatigue. If you suspect CO poisoning, leave the property immediately, get fresh air, and call 999. Don't re-enter until the building is declared safe.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Don't touch any switches. Open windows and doors. Leave the building. Call the National Gas Emergency number: 0800 111 999. Don't go back inside until the all-clear is given.
