What is a Gas Safe engineer?
Gas Safe Register is the official UK register of qualified gas engineers. By law, all gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Always check an engineer's ID card before allowing them to work on your gas appliances.
How do I check if an engineer is Gas Safe registered?
Visit GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500. All our engineers' Gas Safe numbers are available on request.
Do I need a carbon monoxide alarm?
Yes — it's a legal requirement in rented properties for a carbon monoxide alarm to be in any room with a gas appliance. We strongly recommend CO alarms in all homes.
What are the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning?
Headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fatigue. If you suspect CO poisoning, leave the property immediately, get fresh air, and call 999. Don't re-enter until the building is declared safe.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Don't touch any switches. Open windows and doors. Leave the building. Call the National Gas Emergency number: 0800 111 999. Don't go back inside until the all-clear is given.
