How does an air source heat pump work?
An air source heat pump absorbs heat from outside air (even in temperatures as low as -15°C) and transfers it into your home via underfloor heating or radiators.
Are heat pumps efficient?
Yes — heat pumps are 300–400% efficient (they produce 3–4kW of heat for every 1kW of electricity used). Compare this to 90% efficiency for the best gas boilers.
Do I need to insulate my home first?
Heat pumps work best in well-insulated homes. We recommend improving insulation where possible before installation to maximise efficiency and reduce running costs.
Can a heat pump work with existing radiators?
Yes, but radiators may need to be upgraded (larger surface area) because heat pumps operate at lower flow temperatures than gas boilers. We can assess your existing system.
How much is the heat pump grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides a £7,500 grant for air and ground source heat pumps. This is applied by the installer — you don't need to apply separately.
