How old is too old for a boiler?
Most boilers have a useful life of 10–15 years. Once a boiler passes 12 years, repair costs typically outweigh replacement costs — especially as energy savings from a modern A-rated boiler add up fast.
What are the signs I need a new boiler?
Frequent breakdowns, rising energy bills, yellow or orange flames (should always be blue), unusual noises (banging, kettling), leaks, or your boiler not reaching the set temperature.
Should I repair or replace my boiler?
If the repair costs more than 50% of a new boiler, replace. If the boiler is over 10 years old and has had multiple repairs, replace. If it's under 5 years old with one fault, repair.
Is it worth replacing a boiler before winter?
Yes — replacing before the heating season means no emergency call-outs in cold weather, and you'll benefit from improved efficiency all winter. We also tend to be less busy before the heating season.
What's the most energy-efficient boiler I can buy?
