Gas Safe Register: Why It Matters

Working on gas appliances without Gas Safe registration is illegal — and dangerous. Here's what the Gas Safe Register means for you as a homeowner.

The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas appliances in the UK. It replaced CORGI registration in 2009.

Why it's not optional

Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, any gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Using an unregistered engineer is illegal, invalidates your home insurance, and can be fatal — carbon monoxide from poorly fitted boilers kills around 40 people in the UK each year.

How to check if an engineer is registered

Every Gas Safe engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card. You can check any engineer's registration at gassaferegister.co.uk or by calling 0800 408 5500. Enter their licence number and it will confirm they're registered and what gas work they're qualified for.

What qualifications do our engineers hold?

All Corby Boiler Installations engineers are Gas Safe registered and hold ACS (Approved Competence Scheme) qualifications covering domestic gas boilers, natural gas, LPG, and unvented hot water systems. We provide our Gas Safe ID number with every quote.

After any gas work

Always ask for a Building Regulations completion certificate (BS 7593) after a new boiler installation. This certifies the work complies with current regulations and is required for property sales.
